After 45 women are at increased risk for several major health conditions due to hormonal changes, genetic predispositions, and lifestyle factors.
See the reason why’s below
1. Cardiovascular Disease ➡️
- Estrogen has a protective effect on blood vessels and cholesterol levels. When estrogen levels decline during menopause, women’s risk of heart disease significantly increases.
-History of pregnancy -related conditions eg gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, can contribute to long-term cardiovascular issues.
-Women often delay treatment as symptoms can be subtle such as fatigue, nausea, and back pain
2. Dementia (Including Alzheimer’s Disease) ➡️
-Ongoing research in this space however… The decline in estrogen during menopause may contribute to increased brain inflammation & reduced cognitive function.
-Heart disease risk factors eg. high blood pressure and diabetes also increase dementia risk, and women are more likely to develop both conditions as they age
- Social and psychological factors, such as higher rates of depression and anxiety, may also play a role in cognitive decline.
3. Type 2 Diabetes ➡️
- Insulin resistance tends to worsen after menopause due to hormonal changes and increased abdominal fat.
- Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), are at higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life.
4. Osteoporosis ➡️
- Estrogen plays a crucial role in maintaining bone density. After menopause, bone loss accelerates.
- Women generally have smaller, thinner bones than men
- Lifestyle factors such as lower calcium & Vit D intake and reduced physical activity
5. Specific Cancers ➡️
- Increased lifetime exposure to estrogen and progesterone, especially for women who experience early menstruation or late menopause, raises breast cancer risk.
- Genetic factors, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations, also play a significant role.
- Lifestyle factors
