I talk alot about oestrogen dominance or excess oestrogen in the body because we have a pandemic happening in this ALWAYS ON world we live in.
BUT…as women there is a natural occurance that happens during perimenopause where oestrogen fluctuates -can be in excess or deficiency.
In clinic, I have been seeing more and more deficiency, so feel it’s time we had a chat. What symptoms it can bring, the impact on your whole body and most importantly how you can support yourself.
I would always recommend working with a trained Practitioner who understands a Women’s body at a biochemical level and the hormonal nuances that Perimenopause brings as there is never a one size fits all.
But for now, I’ll share a few things every women should know.
Oestrogen impacts; your joints, heart health, bones, breast & brain -so it makes sense you might notice symptoms related to these areas of your body
What are common Low Oestrogen Symptoms?
➡️Shorter or lighter periods (the biggest clues for what hormonal changes are occurring are shown to us in our cycles, this is even more insightful than a blood test so start taking note.)
➡️Night sweats, hot flashes, sleep disturbance.
➡️Heart palpitations, hair loss, dry skin & dry eyes
➡️Decreased Energy, motivation & drive
➡️Depression, anxiety, mood changes
➡️Brain fog, headaches & fatigue
➡️Vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, increased Urinary Tract Infections
➡️Inflammation & Joint Pain
How you can support yourself:
1- Improve your digestion, increase fibre & H20. Regular bowel movements daily.
2- Keep your liver supported; dark leafy cruciferous vegetables; bok choy, broccoli, kale & herbs like milk thistle, dandelion & artichokes
3- Aid liver detox pathways by reducing or eliminating alcohol, limiting processed foods + environmental toxins & pesticides.
4- Start lifting weights & build muscle
5- Consider a vaginal moisturizer or if you’re suffering from a combination of dryness, pain with intercourse, UTI’s & infections consider talking to a practitioner for a vaginal estrogen cream.
